SEARS OPTICAL - COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Around the world, in developing and industrialized countries alike, millions of people suffer from poor vision because they do not have access to eye care or they simply cannot afford it. Poor vision impedes a child's ability to learn in school and robs an adult of independence, mobility and quality of life.

Sears Optical cares. Through a partnership with Give the Gift of Sight we've helped them help millions of people, who could not otherwise afford to see their world clearly, enjoy better vision.

GIVE THE GIFT OF SIGHT

Give the Gift of Sight is a family of charitable programs providing free vision care and eyewear to underprivileged individuals in North America and in developing countries around the world. Sponsored by Give the Gift of Sight Foundation and Luxottica Group, these programs have helped more than six million people on five continents and in hundreds of communities across North America.

GIVE THE GIFT OF SIGHT FEATURED ON NBC'S THE TODAY SHOW

In June, The Today Show featured a three-part series on eye care and the Gift of Sight program. The series highlighted amazing stories of people's symbolic struggle to see clearly, and how their lives were changed by the Gift of Sight program. Viewers watched as they received their new glasses on The Today Show, and shared their reactions as they saw their world clearly for the first time!

WHY WE CARE

Give the Gift of Sight is founded on the belief that clear vision is a basic right, not a luxury. We are committed to delivering clear vision to those in need. Sears Optical is proud to join in this vital charity, as they bring the most precious Gift of Sight to the world's needy.

VANESSA

Vanessa was always a great student, consistently achieving A's and B's in her studies. However, when she was in third grade, Vanessa's grades suddenly dropped to a point where her teacher warned her mother, Gabriella, that Vanessa would be held back if her grades did not immediately improve. This was just at the time the Gift of Sight clinic was taking place in Chicago. Vanessa participated in the clinic; and it was there that the doctors realized she could not see distances, which is why she was having trouble learning in school. A year later, Vanessa was back at the clinic for a check-up and was smiling ear to ear when she reported that less than a week after getting her first pair of glasses, her grades improved and she was able to pass third grade.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

It's easy to help the world see. Just drop off your old prescription glasses, or even non-prescription sunglasses at a Sears Optical store near you. We'll make them good as new and hand-deliver them to those in need around the world. You can also help by donating to Give the Gift of Sight Foundation. Because Luxottica Retail covers most Gift of Sight overhead, 93 cents of every dollar is spent directly on program activities.

GIFT OF SIGHT RECIPIENTS

Recipients are referred from local agencies including Lions clubs, local schools and others. Please contact one of these organizations or your local Sears Optical store for more information.
